MANDY HARVEY
2015 “But You LOOK Good” Inspiration Award Recipient
Introduction
Rick Crandall (Host): Next is the Invisible Disabilities Association’s “But You Look Good” Inspiration Honors Award, and our recipient this year is Mandy Harvey.
Mandy has been chosen because, as someone who lives daily with the struggles of deafness and connective tissue disorder, she inspires others in the midst of their challenges and triumphs. Thank you, Mandy, for passionately sharing your incredible vocal gift of music with the world. Ladies and gentlemen, Mandy Harvey.
Mandy Harvey’s Acceptance Speech
I’ll try to have a really well-organized speech like the speakers before me. Today when I walked in, I got to see all of your smiling faces. And there were a couple of people who walked up to me, and they didn’t say anything—they just gave me a hug. And they looked at me, and we both looked at each other and understood. We’re both dealing with something.
Validating Everyone’s Struggle
Everybody has a story. Everybody has a struggle. And it might not be huge to somebody else, but that doesn’t mean it’s not valid. And I am just so blessed to have all of you in my life.
Gratitude and Encouragement
But I’m also so proud of every single one of you for being here, supporting this organization, supporting people who have hidden struggles and are just being wonderful. Thank you so much. You should be proud of yourselves.
