steveowensattorneySteve Owens was chosen for the IDA Advocacy Honors Award based upon his outstanding support of people living with chronic illness, pain and injury through his work in Special Needs Planning.

Steve R Owens is a third generation Colorado native and a graduate of the University of Colorado Masters Program and the University of Wisconsin Law School, magna cum laude. He has practiced legacy planning law for 17 years with an emphasis on special needs planning for the past eight years. Steve is a member of the Esperti Peterson Institute for Advanced Estate Planning, Wealthcounsel, and the National Network of Estate Planning Attorneys and is the author of the authoritative book on estate planning: Your Legacy, Meaningful Estate Planning.

Steve has assisted more than 200 families who have special needs children and has helped them create strong protective legacy plans, and he regularly lectures on the importance of planning for local advocacy organizations as well as before national conferences. He enjoys his advocacy work because he believes that creating a strong safety net is the greatest gift of love you can give a disabled person. He practices in both Arizona and throughout Colorado, but lives here in Greenwood Village with his wife Rachelle and his three young boys.
