ronsokolmdRon Sokol MD is the 2009 recipient of  the IDA Medical Honors Award. Dr Sokol was chosen based upon his passion to help patients through his extensive medical research and hands on application of pioneering techniques as a  physician at Children’s Hospital Colorado (formerly, The Children’s Hospital)and through his service on numerous boards and committees in the scientific and medical community.

Dr Sokol earned his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in 1976. He completed his Pediatric Residency at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 1979, followed by a further year as Chief Resident, and his fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and the University of Cincinnati in 1983.

Dr. Sokol joined the faculty of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and The Children’s Hospital in 1983. He was appointed Professor of Pediatrics in 1995 and Vice Chair of Clinical and Translational Research for the Department of Pediatrics in 1999. He has served as the Program Director of the Clinical Translational Research Center (formerly the Pediatric General Clinical Research Center) since 1998 and as Section Head of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition since 2006. In 2008, he became Director of the Colorado Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute.
