michaelsalemMichael Salem, MD is the 2010 recipient of the Invisible Disabilities Association Medical Honors Award. Dr Salem was chosen based upon his passion to help patients and his leadership for fellow healthcare professionals while serving as the President and CEO of National Jewish Health because of his extensive medical experience as a surgeon, an instructor and a researcher as well as a pioneer in the medical  technology and the biotechnology industries.

Dr. Salem has served as President and CEO of National Jewish Health since Jan 2006. Dr Salem received his medical degree, performed his surgical residency, and served as Vice Chair of the Department of Surgery at the George Washington University Hospital. He completed additional fellowship training in Critical Care Medicine at MA General Hospital and Johns Hopkins Hospital.  Before coming to National Jewish Health, Dr. Salem served as Executive Vice President of a biotechnology company which developed and commercialized medical technologies principally from University Medical Centers.
