James Corbett, JD, MDiv has been selected to be the 2016 recipient of the Invisible Disabilities Association’s Healthcare Award. James has been chosen because through his leadership as Senior Vice President of  Community Health Improvement and Values Integration at Centura Health, he has helped create a strategic focus on the health of communities served by Centura. Centura’s Community Health Improvement Plan which provides programs focused on high quality care, community collaboration and encouragement for individual participation is the standard to be reached.

James is a fellow at Harvard Medical School, Division of Medical Ethics. He was appointed a 4 year term to the National Institutes of Health’s National Advisory Council for Nursing Research by Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. His research interests are at the intersection of health, law, and bioethics with a focus on health finance and the influence of large institutions on patient care and population health.

Centura Health - James Corbett JD MDiv - 2016 Healthcare Award - Invisible Disabilities AssociationOver the course of his career, James has worked in four different health systems providing strategic and operational leadership for community health, behavioral health, ethics, spiritual care, diversity, mission and global health. In these roles, he established innovative programs using community health advocates, behavioral health navigators, and hospital housing partnerships to improve health care outcomes and reduce health care costs.

James has lectured at Harvard in Clinical Bioethics Courses and at the Maine School of Law and has been published in numerous books and journals. He received a Bachelor of Science in International Relations from Syracuse University, a Juris Doctor from St. Johns University and a Master of Divinity from Duke University.
