Bret Michaels is a singer and musician, best known for being the front man for the rock band Poison. Michaels has recently gone solo with his album, “Custom Built.” Michaels was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was 6 years old. He has lived a very busy and full life despite the diabetes, but has recently battled some additional health issues – emergency appendectomy, a brain hemmorrhage in April 2010, hole in his heart and TIA. Michaels recently won the NBC reality show, Celebrity Apprentice and raised $390,000 for the American Diabetes Association.
“There is no doubt that a huge part of who and what I am is that I’m a diabetic. i have great days and I have bad days. I want to say, look, there are complications and it is a tough disease to manage, but I’ve done it, and I live a ridiculously outrageous, crazy life” Bret Michaels told the American Diabetes Association.
