I Am Invisible No More: Together We are Changing the Way the World Sees Disabilities
In 1996, the Invisible Disabilities® Association (IDA) began with a mission to validate the millions living in the shadows of “looking good” while feeling anything but. Today, we have reached a monumental milestone: IDA’s 30th Anniversary. For more than three decades, we have been the voice for the unheard and the face for the unseen. Now, as we navigate 2026, we move forward under a banner that is both a declaration of dignity and a promise for the future: “I Am Invisible No More“
A Cry of the Heart
“I Am Invisible No More” is a cry of the heart. It is a response to the quiet trauma of being disregarded, disbelieved, or shamed simply because a struggle isn’t visible to the naked eye. It is a refusal to be blamed for limitations or abandoned by a society that often lacks the patience for what it cannot see.
To anchor our 30th year, we are launching in 2026 the 25th Anniversary Edition of our landmark book, But You LOOK Good! This book has been the essential bridge between the hurting and the helping for more than a quarter-century. This new edition is a vital tool in our ongoing fight to ensure that belief is the default response to a person’s pain—not the exception.
One Human Race, One Shared Dignity
The core of “Invisible No More” is the fundamental truth that we are all part of the same human race. Disability and illness are not departures from the human experience; they are a part of life. Every person deserves to be understood and integrated into the fabric of society. We are advocating for a world where everyone is treated with equal respect, regardless of the challenges they carry internally. To be “Invisible No More” is to claim your seat at the table of humanity and stay there.
The Faces of Visibility
We are changing the narrative through the powerful voices of IDA Ambassadors who have decided that living with an invisible disability is no reason to be sidelined. Dr. Eric Fishon and Isabella Sementilli embody this reclamation of presence; Eric is “Invisible No More” because he transformed a private struggle with autoimmune conditions, narcolepsy, and chronic fatigue into a mission to ensure no one has to “prove” their disability through a crisis, while Isabella turned the isolation of a traumatic brain injury into a platform for advocacy, proving that hidden cognitive challenges do not diminish a person’s brilliance or right to be heard. Similarly, Sandy Halperin and Matthania Volmy have chosen radical transparency as their path to visibility; Sandy courageously documented his journey with early-onset Alzheimer’s to ensure the human person remains seen even when the disease is not, and Matthania shares her story to break the cycle of isolation, reminding us that we are only truly understood when we refuse to remain hidden.
Our recent award influencers further demonstrate that being seen is a catalyst for cultural change. Nicole Pedra stepped into the light after twenty years of silence about her MS, showing that being “Invisible No More” means reclaiming your identity and thriving in your career without shame. Alongside her, Connor DeWolfe is shifting how the world sees neurodiversity by using his massive platform to make ADHD and “neuro invisible” conditions relatable, celebrated, and impossible to ignore. These individuals are “Invisible No More” because they recognize that by sharing their truth, they create a world where disability and illness are met with belief rather than blame. Together, they prove that while our conditions may be invisible, our impact, our value, and our presence in the human race are not.
30 Years of IDA Impact
Since our founder, Wayne Connell, first began this work 30 years ago, IDA has remained anchored in our core pillars: Encouraging, Educating, Connecting, Listening, Believing, and Supporting. But the most important part of our story is YOU. When you share your journey and refuse to be sidelined, you help us rewrite the rules of perception. After 30 years of advocacy, our message remains clearer than ever: Your struggle is real, your life is valuable, and you belong.
